Fall Festivals and School Carnivals with an Ice Cream Truck in Charleston

By The Mister Softee Charleston Team|

Fall in Charleston is still plenty warm for soft serve, and it's also when school carnivals and fall festivals start filling up the calendar. If you're the one planning one of them, an ice cream truck is an easy way to give people something they actually want to line up for. We'll bring the Mister Softee truck to the school lot, the church parking lot, or the field where everything is already happening.

This guide is for the PTA parents, teachers, church volunteers, and neighborhood organizers doing the planning. Here's how to make the day easy on yourself.

School carnivals and fall field days

A school carnival needs something that can serve a lot of kids without taking over the whole field. The truck parks at the edge of the event, kids come through in waves, and the rest of the carnival keeps going around it. Give us a set arrival time and a set end time, and we'll keep the line moving from there.

When you reach out, tell us the school, the start time, and whether you want us for the whole carnival or just a window in the middle. We have allergen information for parents, and if the school or PTA needs paperwork to pay us, we can send a W-9 and an invoice. Our school events page has more on field days, end-of-year parties, and the paperwork schools usually ask for.

If the carnival is also raising money, take a look at our fundraisers page. We work with schools, PTAs, churches, and youth groups, and we'll figure out what makes sense for your event.

Fall festivals

A lot of fall festivals are put on by towns, churches, and schools. The town-run ones are their own thing. If you want the truck at a festival for your school, church, or neighborhood, reach out to us directly and we'll check your date.

A few things that make the day easier

  • Pick one point person, like a teacher, PTA lead, or festival chair, so we know exactly who to call if parking changes.
  • Give us a real headcount. Students and whole families are different numbers, so let us know which one you mean.
  • Show us where the truck should park before the cones and games go up.
  • Send any allergy notes when you book, so we can get allergen information to parents ahead of time.

The menu is the same one you see on the truck: soft serve cones, cartwheels, shakes, sundaes, soda floats, and banana boats, and we can tailor it to your event. You can see everything on our menu page.

If you're thinking about this more as dessert catering than a truck visit, it's really the same thing. Our catering page gives you the quick version.

Once you have a date, send us the date, the address, and your headcount through the contact form, or call us at (843) 817-5725. We'll get back to you within 24 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a school book the ice cream truck for a carnival or field day?

Yes, and they're a great fit for the truck. We can send a W-9, an invoice, and allergen information for parents. Just tell us the school address and about how many students you're expecting.

Do you serve fall festivals in Summerville and the rest of the Lowcountry?

Yes. We cover Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Counties, including Summerville, Mount Pleasant, and downtown Charleston. Send us the address and we'll confirm the date.

How fast can you serve a school carnival line?

We plan the service window around your headcount so kids aren't stuck in line forever. For a big school, give us the number up front and we'll work out a plan that fits the carnival schedule.

Can a PTA use the truck as a fundraiser?

Yes, we do fundraisers with schools, PTAs, and other community groups. Check out our fundraisers page or ask when you reach out, and we'll talk through what works for your event.
